Investigation underway regarding possible trespassing at Government House
ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – Director of the Government House Executive Security Unit Gregory Bennerson advised Tuesday night that a report had been filed with the Virgin Islands Police Department in reference to possible criminal trespassing at Government House on St. Thomas. The report was filed after maintenance personnel noted that a window and door had been tampered with. The case remains under investigation.
The building has been closed to the public since the hurricanes and Government House staff has been working in an adjacent building. Many of the valuables, including much of the historic artwork, were removed from the building for safekeeping following severe damage from the storms. Security remains on site at the temporary offices 24 hours per day, Bennerson said.
