Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic on Friday, February 23, to further continue the progress on the Main Street Enhancement Project. The road closure, which will be done during daylight hours, will allow Island Roads Corporation to install drainage structures and pave the roadway. This work is part of their dust control plan.

No parking will be allowed on the street, however pedestrian access will be allowed at all times. Flaggers will be present.

“This federally funded project is a critical and vital component of the continuing downtown Charlotte Amalie revitalization efforts,” said Commissioner Nominee Nelson Petty, Jr. This project will enhance Main Street (Route 308), by providing new sidewalks, new roadway eurocobble® pavement, historic lighting, underground utilities, landscaping and improved drainage.

The Department of Public Works appreciates the community’s patience as they work to improve road conditions throughout the territory. For more information on the Main Street Revitalization Project, call (340) 776-4844.
