Clifton Hill slated for major repairs
Governor Kenneth Mapp approved a contract on Wednesday for major improvements to Route 75 on St. Croix, better known as Clifton Hill Road.
The road project will begin from the Melvin Evans Highway and continue to the Queen Mary Highway at the container port intersection.
“As many of you know when you try to make that right turn going west, there is no turn lane, so that will be added,” said Governor Mapp. “The roadway that extends to La Reine Shopping Center is going to be completely reconstructed. Plans also include the widening of that road and the installation of sidewalks.”
The project is estimated at $5.2 million and will be fully funded by the Federal Highway Administration. Public works will oversee the roadwork, which is being carried out by Virgin Islands Paving, Inc. The project is expected to take up to one year to be completed.
Governor Mapp said that the Commissioners of the Departments of Public Works and the Property and Procurement will announce the dates they issue the notices to proceed.
“We are doing all we can to get these repair projects underway as quickly as possible,” Governor Mapp said.
